• Climate change is the defining challenge of current and future generations;
• Greenhouse gas emissions are the principle contribution that a college makes to climate change impacts;
• Actions taken to reduce emissions that happen sooner than later will be more effective in reducing climate change impacts;
• Cost-effective CO₂ emission reduction now will likely mean greater economic freedom for St. Lawrence College in the future;
• St. Lawrence College is a leader in the provision of education focused on an environmentally sustainable future; and
• The St. Lawrence College Strategic Plan 2009-2013 calls for "leadership in community initiatives that promote environmental sustainability";

We, the undersigned, petition Chris Whitaker, President of St. Lawrence College, to sign the University and College Presidents' Climate Change Statement of Action for Canada, and thereby commit the college to becoming the first community college in Ontario to publicly commit to planning a reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions.
